    This book provides a detailed maritime history of Falmouth starting from the early days before the town was even built, when the river first provided a safe haven for shipping. It explains the growth in trade and the opportunities it brought to the communities on the river/5(4). The town takes its name from Falmouth, England, the home port of Bartholomew Gosnold, believed to be the first European to arrive in the area.
