California, Oregon, Washington, Alaska, British Columbia- a migratory form of the cutthroat trout haunts beaches, points, creeks and rivers along most of the west coast of North America. Fly-fishers know him as the sea-run cutthroat, a muscular slab of spotted silver that can grow to several pounds.

One thing that I have learned about sea run Cutthroat trout fishing is that you have to take it one day, one trip, one tide, even just one moment at a time. It really is not that complicated to get into. A good trout rod of 5 or 6 weight, about 8 to 9 feet long, medium to fast action, is the foundation. We love catching sea run cutthroat on dry flies in the rivers and estuaries. We do it whenever we can talk people out of salmon and steelhead fishing. We have trout fishing from June until November but there is no denying that the best of it is from early September to late October.

Salmon beach fishing fires up in June with July – Mid October being the peak months for all targeted species of salmon well sea Run cutthroat trout and bull trout fishing can be great year round. Reserve your spot now by calling or send an email to [email protected].   If you are interested in fly fishing for these awesome fish, buy Les Johnson's book "Fly-Fishing Coastal Cutthroat Trout". It is the SRC fishing bible!

Sea run cutthroat trout inhabit the margins of aquatic communities. These are the runs, washes and aquatic byways that other salmonids rarely frequent.

Their nuptial beds are in the margins of very small streams and tributaries. These markings are responsible for the common name "cutthroat" given to the trout by outdoor writer Charles Hallock in an article in The American Angler., although the red slashes are not unique to the cutthroat trout and some coastal rainbow trout and redband trout also display throat slashes.
